The Workforce Development Council of Seattle King County, Dr. Diana Pearce of University of Washington, and Incommand, Inc a Yakima IT and web design company received a 1st place 2009 NPower Award Feb 26th for development of the "Washington State Self Sufficiency Calculator", http://thecalculator.org/ .
The 2009 awards attracted a mix of Seattle's top Non-profit go getters and technology heavy weights. It is no wonder as the NPower Awards presented by Microsoft, Accenture are awarded for the most "innovative technologies that help Non-profit organizations reach out to their communities." "The Self Sufficiency Calculator is a web application used by agencies and partners throughout the state to help individuals and families create budgets and work toward self sufficiency", says Diane Craig owner of Incommand.
Anyone can use the calculator to see what it will take to support themselves or their household anywhere in the state of Washington. Individuals can also test for eligibility and estimated benefits for many federal and state programs to temporarily supplement their budget. Case workers at the local Workforce Development offices and other agencies use the calculator to help families create budgets, look at educational and career options to increase wages and track progress toward self sufficiency.
"It's really nice to work on something that you know is going to help so many people," says Craig, "winning the award was just the icing on the cake." About InCommand, Inc.
